Looking for the perfect satchel? Try this generously-sized beauty, designed for firm, medium-weight fabrics like canvas, denim, cotton jacquard, real or faux suede or leather, or classic home-dec fabrics like twill & heavy brocade.

Roomy, lined satchel is almost square in shape with deep sides, and features a shaped front flap with magnetic purse closure; long corded handles; and side pleats. Purse feet are optional, but highly recommended!

Satchel lining has one large zippered pocket, one small, and the essential cell-phone pocket.

Shopping List

You'll need around 11/4 yards /1.15m fabric, plus the same amount of fusible interfacing if you are planning to interface the entire bag; if not, you'll just need a few scraps of fusible interfacing, about 1/4 yard/23cm. You'll also need around 3/4 yard/ 68cm of lining.
Add to your shopping list 1 magnetic purse snap, 1 x 10"/ 25cm zipper for the pocket in the lining and about 1/4 yard/ 23cm fleece for the handle cording. Purse feet are optional...you'll need a set of 4. Don't forget self-colored or contrast topstitching thread.

All fabric amounts are for 60"/150cm wide fabric.

    This bag is fun, quick and easy to make. The directions printed on the pattern are a little sparse, but if you watch the tutorial video you won't have any problems. Just don't forget to tape the handle pattern pieces together so that you have the right length. I purchased the same vinyl that Trudy used in the video and love the results. It looks very RTW. Trudy's tips for working with vinyl were excellent. I use this bag as my purse for work as I typically carry a few work files with me. I love this bag and will make it again!
