For a casually glamorous top layer, make this fabulous
poncho in fluid medium-weight knits like boiled wool,
ponte or double knits, French terry, fleece, dense
and firm sweater knits, sweatshirt fabrics, velour,
soft short pile faux furs or boucle knit fabrics.
Oversized, unlined pull-on poncho features deep
bands at the bottom & side hems; poncho sides
are partially open with optional ties. Poncho has
an inserted double-breasted panel with optional
stand collar; make your poncho collarless, or add
the collar and wear it open or closed with snaps.
This fabulous piece adds a cozy top layer over a
sweater, sweatshirt, jacket or coat. Try it in a boucle
knit or boiled wool for daytime, in a sweater knit or
fleece for the weekend, or choose a sequined or metallic
knit for a modern evening cover-up.
Your poncho looks great over slim bottoms, so choose
a pencil or narrow A-line skirt, cropped cigarette-style
or long & lean pants. Of course this beauty is perfect
for travel wear and colder temperatures, but it also works
brilliantly in warm weather; use floaty semi-sheer gauzy
knits for a poolside cover-up, or try airy, lacey lightweight
crochet knits for those cooler summer nights.
All sizes 6-8-10-12-14-16-18-20-22-24-26 will need
around 3 yards or 275 cm fabric, plus 2 yards or 184 cm
contrast fabric...if you’d rather make this all in one fabric,
you’ll need 5 yards or 458 cm fabric.
If you want to interface your collar and/or neckline insert,
add about ½ yard or 45cm interfacing. If you’d like to use
snaps to close your neckline, you’ll need a pair of large
ones-we used 1” or 2.5cm diameter snaps, but you could
also use buttons or toggles.
All fabric allowances are for 60” or 150cm wide fabrics.
